I had so much fun writing my blog post about how to do a better grocery shop..  and when I headed out to NYC last week to do a video version!  Not only do I always stay on track with my nutrition coaching clients while I travel, I was able to connect with my friend Luis and help him out a little bit with his nutrition.  

While I was in New York City, I caught up with an old friend of mine, Luis Benitez (Weightlifting Coach, Personal Trainer, and experienced athlete). Luis has been competing and training for years, and is definitely NOT a beginner in the nutrition field. However, we found that because he was so used to eating the same things every week, his grocery list and meal prep habits lacked of variety. So we headed to my favorite place in the whole world.. WHOLE FOODS! 

Check out this video to see the changes we made to his weekly shopping list, and learn about how you can also make sure that you are hitting all the ‘basics’ when it comes to weekly meals. 

Here is what we covered in our grocery store trip and list re-vamp: 

-Make sure you are hitting the 4 basic categories when you go to the grocery store: Protein, Healthy Carbs, Healthy Fats and Fiber (Fruits/Veggies).

-Try rotating your list over the course of the month. Add in a new protein source, switch out your carbs for different options, try new fruits and veggies. 

-Make sure you have healthy, easy snacks on hand! 

-Shop in season- in season fruit and veggies are not only cheaper, but more delicious! 

-It doesnt need to be fancy to taste great and be effective! Try preparing your meal components in larger quantities to eat more than once every time you cook, and use the Protein + Carb + Healthy Fat + Fiber equation for any meal!
